In the Mix with Key
UNLOCKING HIS MUSIC POTENTIAL and how he creates non-stop!
KEY!
Atlanta rap artist Key recently joined us at Cam Kirk Studios for an intimate studio session, giving us a sneak peek into his musical journey, creative philosophy, and what lies ahead for him. His candidness offered a refreshing perspective on what it means to be an artist in the rap industry today.
Key's voyage into the music world began at a family barbecue, with a cousin and Fruity Loops (FL Studio). At just 12 or 13 years old, Key was introduced to the production software — and the rest, as they say, is history. He honed his craft from his early teenage years until his late teens, transitioning from being a producer to an artist whose sound is deeply rooted in the era of '95 to '99, an epoch that boasts the likes of Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu.
For Key, music transcends being just a passion—it is an intrinsic part of his being. "I am a musician," he declares, equating his craft to a vital limb. He doesn't consider music as a mere phase but as an essential element of his existence. This intrinsic connection is why he never encounters creative blocks; music is a constant in his life, the first and last thought of his day.

Having previously collaborated with A$AP Rocky, Key yearns to revisit that unique sound they created together. However, he remains open to working with a wide array of artists, seeking bits and pieces he admires in each one. His role as a producer is to curate and nurture these sounds, ensuring they reach their fullest potential.
In this exclusive session, Key not only shared his reflections on the music industry but also imparted wisdom for those looking to carve their own path. His words resonate with anyone striving to leave a mark on the world through their art. As he looks to the horizon, ready to release new music, Key is a name we'll be hearing for years to come, a creator not just living in the moment but shaping the future of the Atlanta rap scene.
